Online ads are everywhere — on websites, games, videos, and apps. But not all ads are safe. Some ads try to trick people into clicking by showing fake prizes, scary warnings, or exciting offers. That’s why it’s important to know how to stay safe when seeing ads online.
In this session, our Grade 9 students explored the world of online advertising.
They learned:
What ads are and why companies pay to show them online.
How to recognize suspicious ads, like pop-ups and clickbait that can lead to harmful sites.
Why can't all ads be trusted, and what risks come with clicking random ads.
What ad blockers are — tools that help hide annoying and unsafe ads to make browsing safer and faster.
The students also had a fun hands-on activity prepared by our subject-matter expert. They visited different websites, spotted ads on the pages, and talked about the real purpose behind each ad. They also tried using ad blockers to see how they could better control what they see online.
By the end of the session, our students were smarter and safer online users — ready to avoid tricky ads and enjoy a safer internet experience!
